Comfort Cooling System for University Graduation Ceremony
Project.
Temporary comfort cooling system for university graduation ceremony.
Solution.
Carrier Rental Systems (CRS) designed a portable system providing the required cooling during the ceremony.
Application.
The university wanted to provide air conditioning for their June 9th graduation ceremony that is held in their campus gymnasium. The ceremony is held in three separate seatings: 9:00 AM, 12:00 noon, and 3:00 PM. Each seating would have 3000 to 4000 people. The requirement was to provide enough cooling capacity to keep the internal temperature at or around 75 degrees F.
The CRS team went to work and developed a system that used 600 tons of air cooled chillers, 140,000 CFM of air handlers, 1.5 MW of power generators with auxiliary duct, hose, cable, and all the necessary accessories. The installation began on Saturday, June 2nd. The university needed the system operational by Thursday, June 6th at 11:00 AM. The job was manned 24 hours per day and takedown began on Sunday, June 10th. All equipment was off site by Monday, June 11th.
This event is a major production for the university. Each individual invested heavily for their four year education and the university wanted to present them with a glorious send off.
CRS was able to pre-cool the indoor space temperature to 67 degrees F prior to the event. Below are sample pictures of the project:
