High School Changes Out Main Transformer and Electrical Feed

Project.

High school changes out main transformer and electrical feed.

Solution.

Carrier Rental Systems (CRS) only supported areas and mechanicals that need power.

Application.

School districts are always faced with the never ending ritual of maintenance. This particular district was faced with the challenge of updating and changing out a large high school's main transformer and electrical feed. Due to the large feed (over 2 MW); the electrical contractor was nervous about working around a "live" system and requested the school shut down all electricity to the building during the renovation (approximately two weeks). Unfortunately, this was not an option for the district because mold and humidity were major concerns. They did not want the building to sit in an unconditioned state during the project. Another concern was the summer administration staff and other functions that were taking place at the facility.

The district called CRS to create a solution. The district was considering possibly using multiple air conditioners with generators to keep the building cool. The only problem would then be the summer staff and the other building functions. After reviewing the project, CRS offered two solutions-to either use one large 2 MW generator to power the facility or to design a system using smaller generators to power multiple mechanical rooms, chillers, and lighting for areas of the facility being utilized. Under the first scenario, the electrical contractor was still concerned for the safety of the crew while working around the large 2 MW system. The second solution fit the district's need to save money and maintain the safety of the electrical contractor's crew. It's a win-win solution for everyone. Below are sample pictures of the project:
