Carrier Corporation Provides Temporary Cooling to New Feeding South Florida Facility

(BOYNTON BEACH, Fla., November, 2016) – Carrier Rentals recently overcame an extremely tight deadline to complete a pro bono installation of a temporary cooling system to support a well-respected charity focused on feeding the hungry in South Florida.feeding-south-florida-facility

Feeding South Florida recently moved into a new distribution center in Palm Beach County where the air conditioning system was not installed in time for the grand opening event at the site.

In the spirt of supporting the less fortunate in the communities where Carrier operates, Carrier Rentals engineered a temporary cooling system to provide a comfort cooling solution in time for the event.

Founded in 1981, Feeding South Florida is a leading domestic hunger relief organization in the state. The charity aims to serve nearly 900,000 food insecure individuals throughout Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe Counties through direct service programs and a network of approximately 350 nonprofit partner agencies.

The organization’s new 50,000 square foot facility, called Feeding Palm Beach County, includes a large warehouse to store dry goods, walk-in freezers and coolers to accommodate perishables such as fruits and vegetables, as well as a commercial kitchen to prepare meals and provide a culinary jobs training program.

As part of its effort to reduce food waste and help feed more people, Carrier Transicold & Refrigeration Systems asked the local Rentals team to visit the facility and prepare a temporary plan.
Working on an extremely tight deadline, the team determined a 20 ton air conditioner would cool the space. The design of the building and the location of the power source presented unique challenges – considering the equipment was required the following afternoon.

“This was just a tremendous collaborative effort by the Rentals team,” said Jon Shaw, director, Sustainability & Communications, Refrigeration. “When we called at the 11th hour, they did not hesitate to jump in to help. By all accounts, the temporary air conditioning system performed flawlessly, and the event was a great success.”

Faced with a tight deadline the Rentals team moved quickly to design and deliver the equipment on schedule for the meeting. According to Damien Ferrari, Director of Feeding South Florida, the whole process “went very well”.

Damien also commented “I haven’t seen that kind of organization and execution since my days in the military.”
